1 candidate to run for CE poll

The Candidate Eligibility Review Committee (CERC) today published a notice in the gazette to declare one nomination, of candidate John Lee, for the 2022 Chief Executive Election as valid.   Mr Lee received 786 valid nominations from 786 Election Committee members.   The Returning Officer received one nomination form by the close of the nomination period of the Chief Executive election on April 16. The CERC has reviewed the candidate’s eligibility and determined the nomination as valid.   Separately, the Registration & Electoral Office received seven registrations of Election Committee ex-officio members arising from changes of specified offices’ holders. After review, the CERC determined that these seven registrations are valid.   Polling will take place on May 8. A main polling station will be set up at the Convention & Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai for Election Committee members to cast their votes.

8.47m jab doses administered

About 8,474,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to the public, with about 4,430,300 people receiving their first dose and around 4,043,600 getting their second dose.   Among those given the first dose of vaccines, about 1,607,100 people have received the Sinovac jab and about 2,823,300 people got the BioNTech one.   For the second dose, about 1,472,300 people have received the Sinovac vaccine, while about 2,571,300 people have been administered the BioNTech jab.   About 33,700 people received jabs under the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme today.   Around 3,600 people received their first dose of the Sinovac vaccine and around 9,200 people received their second dose.   For the BioNTech vaccine, about 4,500 people received their first dose and around 16,400 people got their second dose.   The overall percentage of people who received the Sinovac vaccine at community vaccination centres is about 97% while it is about 93% for the BioNTech one.   As of midnigh
