Specimen collection service adjusted

The Government today announced that the deep throat saliva specimen collection service will be adjusted from October 4 as these specimens are no longer accepted for compulsory or regular testing.   It said the decision was made after reviewing the usage and public demand for the testing services.   From October 4, the specimen collection points at Shaukeiwan, East Kowloon and Tai Po chest clinics, the Central Government Offices, Tai Wan Shan and Lei Cheng Uk swimming pools, as well as Tai Po Waterfront Park will cease operation.   The remaining 76 specimen collection points will continue to provide services to facilitate people to undergo voluntary testing.   They are located at 47 designated Hospital Authority general outpatient clinics (GOPCs), 10 designated Department of Health clinics and 19 government premises.   These specimen collection points will remain open from 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 3pm on Mondays to Fridays, and from 9am to 11am on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.   Except for the 47 designated GOPCs, other specimen collection points do not distribute deep throat saliva specimen collection packs.   People may obtain the packs at those GOPCs, 121 post offices or the vending machines at 20 MTR stations.   As some people still undergo testing on a voluntary basis, the Government said it will continue to provide free deep throat saliva specimen collection packs, but the supply of such packs will be adjusted at an appropriate juncture.
