HK athlete wins Paralympic bronze

Chief Executive Carrie Lam today congratulated Hong Kong table tennis player Wong Ting-ting who won a bronze medal in the Women's Singles TT11 event at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.   It is the first medal claimed by the Hong Kong, China Delegation at the Tokyo Paralympics.   Mrs Lam said that Miss Wong made her debut at the competitions marvellously and outperformed veteran players.   “We are delighted and thrilled. Given her strong will and exceptional talent, I believe that she will reach new heights of sporting glory.”   The Chief Executive noted that other Hong Kong athletes also performed at their best in various competitions at the Paralympics Games in the past few days, which is laudable, adding that she and members of the public will continue to support Hong Kong athletes by watching TV broadcasts.   Secretary for Home Affairs Caspar Tsui also sent his congratulations to Miss Wong on her medal win, saying she has strived to maintain high standards of excellence and achieved an excellent result with her mastery of the sport.   Miss Wong currently ranks second in Class TT11 in Asia. She took home a silver medal in the Women's Singles TT11 event at the 2019 INAS Global Games.   To demonstrate full support for Hong Kong athletes participating in the Tokyo Paralympic Games, Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) deployed two production crews by reallocating resources to cover the events in Japan to report on the latest news of Hong Kong athletes.   In addition to the opening and closing ceremonies, RTHK is also broadcasting live no less than 100 hours of competitions, including those of Hong Kong athletes.   It is also producing two hours of Paralympics highlights every day with instant sign language interpretation and bilingual broadcasting as well as an Urdu dubbed version, which will be provided to other local television stations.   The Chief Executive commended the public broadcaster's efforts to broadcast the Paralympic Games, allowing more people to cheer for Hong Kong athletes, sustaining the atmosphere of supporting sports development in society and enhancing care for athletes with disabilities in the community.
