Civil servant requirement clear

Secretary for the Civil Service Patrick Nip today said the requirement for civil servants is set out in the Basic Law and the laws of Hong Kong.   Speaking to the media after attending a radio programme, Mr Nip said the Government has made clear its new policy and arrangements regarding the British National (Overseas) (BN(O)) passport which will not be recognised as a valid travel document and proof of identity in Hong Kong.   “As regards civil servants holding a foreign passport or all that, we just follow what it is set out in the Basic Law and the Hong Kong laws.   “Basically, the requirement is that they have to be Hong Kong permanent residents.”
